Leon Maxwell Burns, Jr. founded Open Technology Group in 1991, serving as the President and CEO until he lost his battle to lung cancer in 2011. He was an avid supporter of lung cancer research and spent the years following his diagnosis serving as spokesperson for the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. There, he educated groups and individuals about this terrible disease that affects people of every race, gender, and age.
OTG is proud to continue supporting lung cancer research by partnering with LUNGevity, the nation’s largest lung cancer organization. OTG will sponsor and take part in LUNGevity’s Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk to End Lung Cancer on Sunday, November 6, 2016. LUNGevity is firmly committed to making an immediate impact on increasing the quality-of-life and survivorship of people with lung cancer by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments. LUNGevity also provides community, support, and education for all those affected by the disease.
Leon’s wife, Debby Burns, is continuing Leon’s legacy of lung cancer advocacy as OTG’s Breathe Deep DC Team Leader. Open Technology Group has already donated $5,000, and all registration fees and donations will help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 for life saving lung cancer research. Together, we can carry on this charge in Leon’s honor, as well as support others who have been touched by this terrible disease.
