Leon Maxwell Burns, Jr. founded Open Technology Group in 1991, serving as the President and CEO until he lost his battle to lung cancer in 2011. He was an avid supporter of lung cancer research and spent the years following his diagnosis serving as spokesperson for the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. There, he educated groups and individuals about this terrible disease that affects people of every race, gender, and age.

OTG is proud to continue supporting lung cancer research by partnering with LUNGevity, the nation’s largest lung cancer organization. OTG will sponsor and take part in LUNGevity’s Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk to End Lung Cancer on Sunday, November 6, 2016. LUNGevity is firmly committed to making an immediate impact on increasing the quality-of-life and survivorship of people with lung cancer by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments. LUNGevity also provides community, support, and education for all those affected by the disease.

Leon’s wife, Debby Burns, is continuing Leon’s legacy of lung cancer advocacy as OTG’s Breathe Deep DC Team Leader. Open Technology Group has already donated $5,000, and all registration fees and donations will help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 for life saving lung cancer research. Together, we can carry on this charge in Leon’s honor, as well as support others who have been touched by this terrible disease.

Open Technology Group Doubles Fundraising Goal for Lung Cancer Research

Team OTG: United for a Cure

This year, Open Technology Group officially sponsored LUNGevity’s annual Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk for the first time on Sunday, November 1st. We had a great time together on the National Mall, and enjoyed some spots of sunshine throughout the morning.

One of our organization’s core values is to surpass expectations, and Team Open Technology Group: United for a Cure clearly demonstrated this value on Sunday. Our initial goal was to raise $10,000 in registration fees and donations. Our team quickly exceeded that goal, and we pushed our benchmark to new heights several times in order to meet the generosity of our friends, family members, and coworkers.

In the end, our team raised an astounding $20,000! 100% of these funds will be invested in cutting edge lung cancer research, bringing us closer to curing America’s leading cause of cancer death. We at OTG have proven that we can work together to make a difference, and this Sunday was our first of many wonderful Breathe Deep DC events.

Thank you to everyone who spread the word, donated, and participated. We look forward to uniting for a cure again next year!
